What kind of books should my children be reading?
What kind of books should my children be reading?
Once a child has the ability to read independently the questions arises as to what kind of books a parent should be encouraging their child to read. Some would say that the classic titles generally equip children with a broader more advanced vocabulary, but what if you have a child that just has no interest in the classic titles?
In my opinion, in the early years children should be encouraged to read a wide variety of books. The worst thing you can do as a parent is to try and force children to read books of a particular genre. This is likely to work against your aim of wanting to nurture a love of reading. As your child's reading ability improves buy them a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles by a cross section of authors from across the globe.
Happy reading!
